You, Michelle, and Caius head back to Bunker A. Michelle wanders off to the barracks room while Caius goes to the lab. You take a second to ask Red what all that was about.

"I really don't know," she says. "It felt like we were in two places at once. Or... in the whole room. It also didn't feel like we were all there, either, though."

You head into the lab, and you tell Fuse and Dr. Finch what happened in Bunker D.

"Hm... hm hm hm, that is intriguing," Dr. Finch begins. "My first thought is is is that it could be a future version of you, or perhaps an alternate reality, but the confined and limited nature of the room you're describing makes that seem odd, yes? Yes. What reason would any genuine variant of you have for just standing around in a small room with backward print across the wall? Perhaps... perhaps our spacial anomaly door somehow deposited you outside our known volume of space, and your mind filled in the blanks visually as your brain cannot perceive complete absence. Or, perhaps it's just a feature of the door when it's not properly programmed to exit to anywhere in particular. Difficult to say with what little information we have."

"I think I'm more worried about that plant," Fuse says. "What if it grows its way up the ladder, or backs itself up into the rest of the flower growing stuff?"

"Said plant has had roughly a century to pull off either feat," Dr. Finch replies. "I doubt our sudden appearance in the base would give it any fresh incentive. If it's a danger at all, the danger lies in entering that room... which, I must admit, may be an inevitability. We're no doubt going to fix the wiring in the electrical room when we find the time, but if there's any further damage in the plant-occupied room--"

"--We'd need to fix that, too," Fuse finishes. "Yeah. And that means navigating the blood jungle."

You ask about their progress on reverse engineering Queen.

"Oh, yeah," Fuse says with a light grin. "Get ready, these are fun answers."

"The first non-blood element we found in Save the Queen was a grotesquely mutated strain of psilocybin," Dr. Finch states. "You may be more familiar with the term magic mushrooms. The erratic nature in which the chemical's been augmented suggests radiation exposure, specifically--which did not come as a shock. Fungi absorb and hold radiation with incredible consistency... any mushrooms grown in the lower tiers are likely to produce a not dissimilar brand of psilocybin."

"Anybody can grow mushrooms," Fuse says, "but getting the right mushrooms, and in enough supply to meet the Queen demand... that's a different story. I know there's a dude in the lower tiers that's huge in the mushroom business--I can make a couple calls, I think, and figure out where to find him."

"The other main ingredient," Dr. Finch says, "is the dissociative anesthetic phe--"

Fuse cuts him off. "Please, don't hit 'em with the full name. It's seriously like fifty syllables, and they're not gonna remember that."

Dr. Finch gives a small sigh, and adjusts his glasses. "Very well. It's mostly known by various street names, such as Gabriel or crawl. Unlike the other more-or-less natural drug in this mix, this disassociative anesthetic is wholly synthesized in a laboratory setting."

"As an added bonus," Fuse says, "one of the biggest gangs to deal crawl in this city has been upgrading their real estate the last couple of years. Folks get evicted from their apartments or their stores get shut down... and like, overnight a whole block will be overrun with Dicers. I thought it was just Dicers bribing cops or whatever, but we looked into some of those addresses... Shirai's fingerprints are all over 'em. If we're gonna track down the Dicers' main drug lab, though... we might need to be real, real cool about it. Most of 'em, if not the whole gang, are probably Queened up."

Mild edit made, and I think I got away with fixing my goofy mistakes. Hohoho

Sorry for not checking in yesterday everybody. I think I'm entering this weird spiral of stress triggering migraines, but then when I spend all day recovering from a migraine I don't get much done, and then I stress because I wasted the day, and the stress triggers a migraine--

Mario Odyssey comes out tonight, so I'm going to live stream that and Mario my cares away. Expect that sometime around midnight-ish central standard time.

My new book is 16% funded so far with 24 days left, massive thanks to everybody that's helped me so far.

And as a side note, something else that holds radiation better than we'd like is puppy fur.

Forbidden puppies.

puppies you can't ever pet? ;____;

looking forward to the stream, btw! hehe
Mochi 26th Oct 2017, 9:38 PM edit delete reply

Any chance for links to both your Twitch channel and the Kickstarter on the navigation bar on the left?

Yeah, I'll try to get some links up on the side bar sometime today. In the meantime:

Ok, first thing is telling Jury about those developments. We're already spread way too thin as it is, and even she won't be able to do much by herself, but busting drug labs manned by mindwarped junkies armed to the teeth ought to make her superiors busy.

Of course, since her department probably has its share of Queened moles, any investigation will only find an empty lab, but forcing them to move over and over again should already lower their drug output a fair bit.

Actually, it puts Jury at a risk of getting "dealt with" by a corrupted superior. Warn her about that as well.
Twyll 26th Oct 2017, 9:13 PM edit delete reply
The feds might sidestep the issue by deciding that drug labs are not their jurisdiction, but that of the city police. We should still tell Jury though, because it might be useful information for her to have even then.
PurpleKetchup 27th Oct 2017, 3:09 PM edit delete reply
I don't think feds can just stop caring about drug rings, unless they're federal agents in name only.
Jury gave me the feeling they were still on top of things.

Did we determine if Lasker could have a RED? What if the thing on the other side of the door was his RED?
Mochi 26th Oct 2017, 6:11 PM edit delete reply
because she told us she wasn't a red. also, for her to be a red, "lasker" would have had to grow an exact copy of jane -- down to the clothes and the flower, things jane only put on yesterday -- and somehow manipulate a series of high-tech card locks to get her in the backwards room without us noticing. "lasker" is frozen solid and in multiple discrete pieces scattered over several bunkers. there's no way he'd be able to do anything like that. for her to be a psychological manifestation of a red (like Red is), if that's what you mean, we would have had to sync with "lasker" for an extended period of time. i don't remember doing that, do you? and for her to control us, while being "lasker's" red, if "lasker" had somehow been able to sneak her into the backwards room without us noticing while being frozen solid, jane would have to have "lasker's" blood in her, which is another thing that hasn't happened.
PurpleKetchup 26th Oct 2017, 6:45 PM edit delete reply
Also, as already mentioned, I believe the frozen creature is simply the martian Red alone - the human known as Lasker died long ago.
Steve 26th Oct 2017, 9:27 PM edit delete reply
I'm not saying other Jane was Lasker's Red. I'm sugesting she was keeping us from entering an externalized Lasker Red.
Mochi 26th Oct 2017, 9:44 PM edit delete reply
i highly doubt it. there are any number of reasons a backwards corrupted pocket dimension could be dangerous.
Crestlinger 26th Oct 2017, 6:08 PM edit delete reply
Fun times ahead if they have one, find and bleed into their chemical reservoirs of this stuff and await results.
thus far it looks like Contact Jury>Repair Androids>Fix wiring>Track down Queen would be the best order of operations
Twyll 26th Oct 2017, 9:12 PM edit delete reply
That is actually an *excellent* idea. It would most likely taint their supply to the point of being unusable, because I imagine our blood cells would go on a total rampage fueled by their hatred of the drug.

The only issue might be if they decided to distribute the drug anyways and we suddenly ended up with a LOT more bloodfriends all at once, but I imagine we could learn to filter them out :P and they might even be able to go on with their lives none the wiser.

I have nothing of much substance to input, I just want to pet the bab red.
rufiangel 26th Oct 2017, 9:29 PM edit delete reply
Would that mean patting the veiny growths on the wall? XD;;;
Twyll 26th Oct 2017, 11:12 PM edit delete reply
Yus. Since bab red is not really in a v huggable state right now, we should pet instead.
rufiangel 26th Oct 2017, 11:23 PM edit delete reply
Imagining Caius's face as Jane goes over to gently pat the veiny growths on the wall secretly fills me with delight XDD
Blue_Elite 26th Oct 2017, 11:32 PM edit delete reply
In all fairness, we REALLY should give mom's Red a hug when it appears here.
It isn't that difficult to hug a wall and really we should be giving xem more human affection (I also want to teach our internalized red to hug at some point, if for no other reason than as an excuse to give xem excessive hugs).
rufiangel 26th Oct 2017, 9:28 PM edit delete reply
We probably don't have the resources to tackle Dicers so I'm all for asking Jury for her help on that one. For the 'shrooms, though, Fuse can probably go ahead and make those calls, see what we can do on our end to track down *that* lab. Or cave. Or... closet? XD;;;

Still kind of hoping we can at least bring in the parts so we can piece together the third Proto-Jury if time allows later.

Considering most of the morning has been spent on surgery, scavenging, StQ reverse-engineering and bunker shenanigans, I'm kind of thinking it might be time to feed ourselves? XD; Is it lunch time yet?
Blue_Elite 26th Oct 2017, 11:43 PM edit delete reply
I'm all for contacting Jury and then just waiting (I.e. focusing on side projects like P-J #3 and sammiches for lunch). We've pretty much been intercepted at EVERY TURN whenever we try to do ANYTHING by one of the many powerful people trying to kill us. >_>
I'd like to have a solid plan before possibly tackling a gang of heavily-armed mutants.

Blue_Elite 26th Oct 2017, 11:53 PM edit delete reply
I don't know if we want to go this route just yet or not but while we were in Macland's mind we found, "... documents detailing methods of tax fraud." That is HUGE as far as federal government concerns go. If there's one thing the government does NOT tolerate, it's not getting their "fair" share of money.

The big problems being we have absolutely zero physical evidence and we either explain to Jury we can enter people's minds (which may scare her into really considering us to be a monster) or we have to tell her she'll just have to take our word for it.
Memo 27th Oct 2017, 12:04 AM edit delete reply
Oh, we should definitely tell Jury about the tax thing. Not being able to reveal our sources should not be an issue with her.

So I decided to check this out after reading about the hiatus on Dirty Drift, and I guess I binged the entirety of the comic the last 2 days. And it's so good. Ya made me feel feelings, mister Morganstern. Also the little community you've got here is pretty great.
As for suggestions, I suppose I'll just support talking to Jury, and petting Baby Red's nice wall coveringness.
Oh, and when Mom's red finishes connecting, definitely remember to ask it about the alternate Jane.
